Discover The World of Knowledge during Literacy Week at WASS and Book Week at PennSchool

Throughout November, WASS and PennSchool organized a Book Week event, featuring a variety of activities aimed at fostering a love of reading and the pursuit of knowledge among students. Through the pages of books, students were able to explore distant lands, encounter great characters, and gain a deeper understanding of societal issues. In addition to reading, students had the opportunity to share their favorite books with their peers.

From November 4 to November 8, the Western Australian International School System (WASS) kicked off its Literacy Week with the theme “Reading with Purpose.” Throughout the week, students participated in various activities, including the “Book Review Challenge,” where they shared their favorite books with the WASS community by writing reviews on a giant book display.  Additionally, each classroom featured  a designated reading corner, encouraging students to bring their own books to share and borrow. These activities embodied a vibrant and engaging learning environment.

Beyond immersing themselves in stories through books, WASSers brought these tales to life by creating vibrant theatrical performances, fostering creativity and teamwork among the students. Additionally, students designed colorful book covers and utilized AI technology to generate unique book designs. Furthermore, they practiced their artistic abilities by crafting bookmarks from various materials such as paper clips, clay, and origami paper. To encourage a love of reading, the School created a “Cozy Corner” reading area in the library, providing students with a dedicated space for shared reading experiences.

To further encourage a love of reading among our students, PennSchool hosted a Book Week from November 18 to 22, 2024, with the theme “Wings for the Mind, Adventures for the Soul – Books Open New Horizons for Me”. The event featured a series of book introduction activities and a bookmark design contest that allowed students to express their creativity. After the event, many students discovered new books and exciting stories as well as made new friends who share the same passion.

To provide students with a deeper understanding of the program’s theme, the School organized a meeting with author Phương Huyền. The event was filled with excitement as students had the opportunity to ask questions and discuss topics related to reading. Furthermore, to encourage reading habits, the School collaborated with Cá Chép Bookstore to organize a book exhibition featuring a wide variety of books. Students could freely read and purchase books at a discounted price exclusively for #HomeOfTheEagles.

Although Book Week has come to an end, the journey of exploring the world of knowledge through books continues. In the future, the schools will continue to organize more exciting reading activities to nurture students’ love of reading, contributing to building a generation of young people with knowledge and a passion for lifelong learning.
