What Does a Day in the Life of a Hall Monitor at the Happy School Look Like?

Neatly dressed, disciplined in manner, and always wearing a bright smile, at 7:00 a.m., the Hall Monitors are ready to welcome our Jaguars to another exciting day of learning at the happy school of Sydney School (SISS).

Their morning duties include greeting students, assisting them as they move between floors, and guiding them from classrooms to the cafeteria. These tasks may seem simple, but ensuring order and safety for a large number of students requires agility, attentiveness, and seamless coordination.

“Being a Hall Monitor may appear easy at first glance, but it is far more challenging than one might imagine”, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Duy shared – “Our responsibilities are divided into three clear shifts, with each monitor handling different duties. Every moment of the day matters – especially the tasks of monitoring and protecting our students to ensure their absolute safety”.

After welcoming students, the Hall Monitors continue to check classrooms, facilities, and assist teachers with morning attendance across the floors.

“In a school environment, establishing a good routine is essential. Besides monitoring and caring for the students, we also help them adjust their daily habits and behavior each morning. This helps build a school that is not only happy but also disciplined and serious in the best way”, Mr. Duy adds.

This sense of discipline continues throughout the entire school day, and the Hall Monitors are the ones who take on the core responsibility of student management and care during this time.

To ensure students can learn and play in a safe, peaceful, and friendly environment, Mr. Huynh Trung Hieu said that the Hall Monitors must maintain constant focus and broad observation – quickly noticing any signs of “instability,” minimizing unexpected situations, and responding promptly in emergencies.

“Beyond ensuring safety, I always pay close attention to the students’ physical and emotional well-being, observing their daily moods to bring them a complete and joyful learning experience. This job demands responsibility, carefulness, and discipline, but also sincerity, openness, and deep dedication to the students. I truly love this school and treasure every step of their growth”, Mr. Hieu shares.

As the school day draws to a close, the Hall Monitors begin their dismissal duties. Mr. Hoang Van Phuong likens the Hall Monitors to a gentle “bridge,” guiding students from their classrooms back into the loving arms of their parents.

Smooth coordination with homeroom teachers and various departments is crucial to ensure that students are handed over quickly and safely.

“The work of a Hall Monitor is neither loud nor flashy. We quietly observe, guide, and support our students so that every moment of their learning and play remains whole and meaningful”, Mr. Phuong proudly reflects on his role at Sydney School.

The day-to-day work of the Hall Monitors may be long and often unseen, but within it lies deep care, compassion, and a profound sense of responsibility – bringing peace of mind to students and reassurance to Parents the moment their children step through the school gates.

Because they firmly believe that every day at school should truly be a happy day.
