The Superintendent and the Story Behind the Scenes

Not all teachers stand in front of a class to teach. Some teachers, like superintendent, work behind the scenes to create a positive and supportive learning environment. In this magazine issue, RT Connection is excited to share the story of Mr. Nguyen Van Tu, a young and enthusiastic superintendent at PennSchool. His unwavering commitment and passion have made him more than just a disciplinarian –  he’s a mentor who inspires students to reach their full potential.

What opportunity led you to become a superintendent at the PennSchool?

I believe it was destiny that led me to this profession, and it was my heart that led me to PennSchool. As a fresh graduate from Ho Chi Minh City University of Education in late 2021, finding a job during the post-pandemic period was challenging. After applying for various positions, I realized that none of them truly ignited my passion. Then, a friend introduced me to PennSchool, where I was offered a position as a Superintendent. My interview with Ms. Tran Thi Hong Ha – Campus Manager of PennSchool (now the Vice-Principal of SISS) was a turning point. She believed in me and inspired me to take on this role. Her guidance and support have been invaluable, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to work at PennSchool.

What do you find most inspiring about your position as a superintendent?

Working at RT Holdings, particularly at PennSchool, has given me the opportunity to meet and interact with many interesting people. However, it’s the students who inspire me the most. Whenever I look at them, I feel like I’m reliving my youth. Memories of my school days, teachers and friends come flooding back. They have helped me realize the value of this work and appreciate every moment I spend with them.

What challenges do you face in this position, and how have you overcome them?

All jobs come with their share of challenges, but it’s these challenges that help us grow and develop. As a superintendent, my role is more than just monitoring students. While I may not teach specific subjects, I focus on cultivating important qualities like discipline, respect, and responsibility.

Unlike teaching specific subjects, my position requires a deep understanding of each student’s unique personality and mindset. A significant part of my work focuses on nurturing appreciation for simple yet meaningful behaviors, like greetings and respectful language, which small acts lay the foundation for future success. However, achieving this is no easy task due to the wide range of personalities and experiences among students. It requires patience, careful observation, and consistent guidance.

For me, challenges are not obstacles but opportunities for growth. I constantly strive to find new approaches, learn from my colleagues, and research methods that can be applied to each specific case. Every small progress of my students is a joy and a great motivation for me to continue this journey.

What is your most memorable experience at the School?

One of my most memorable experiences was working with my students on a New Year’s comedy skit in 2024. Together, we brainstormed ideas, developed the script, and put in countless hours of rehearsals. The laughter and enthusiasm during our practice sessions created a strong bond between us. For me, this wasn’t just a play; it was a journey of creating a meaningful and memorable Tet holiday with my beloved students.

In your opinion, what factors and qualities are required to perform the supervisor job effectively?

To succeed in any job, certain qualities and skills are essential. First and foremost, a strong work ethic is required, maintaining a neutral attitude and serving as a role model for students. Supervisors must be impartial and always treat all students fairly.

A genuine love for children is indispensable in the teaching profession, Despite facing numerous challenges and difficulties, one must maintain a passionate spirit, love, and serve as a mental support for the students. Respecting and engaging with students in active communication fosters a deeper understanding of their thoughts, emotions, and aspirations. Beyond imparting knowledge of ethics and life skills, I am also committed to guiding students in developing appropriate behaviors, effective communication, and a robust character, enabling them to flourish comprehensively.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Mr. Nguyen Van Tu for his candid and heartfelt sharing. Our conversation with him has provided us with invaluable insights into the responsibilities of a supervisor and has allowed us to appreciate the profound dedication and passion he has for his students. Your quiet and impactful contributions have been instrumental in fostering a conducive and secure learning environment.

On the occasion of Teacher Appreciation Month, RT Holdings would like to express our sincere gratitude to all teachers who have dedicated themselves to the cause of education. Thanks to your passion, patience, and love, you have built a solid foundation for the younger generation, helping them not only acquire knowledge but also develop their character.
