To encourage students to explore diverse areas of interest, PennSchool has initiated the Broadcasting project, a student-led initiative supported by the Board of Principals throughout November. Students from different grade levels are involved in producing news bulletins in various formats.
As part of the project, every Monday, students collaborate to produce a weekly news bulletin called “Good Vibes Monday,” which is broadcast live at all PennSchool campuses. Under the guidance of the school administration, these young broadcasters gain hands-on experience in the entire news production process, from gathering information from classrooms, scripting, and discussing with the Board of Principals to finalizing the bulletin. In addition to live broadcasts, students also produce the Penn News podcasts and try their hand at live streaming to introduce upcoming school events.
Since the project began, the atmosphere on Monday mornings at PennSchool campuses has become more lively and excited as students can now stay updated on the latest school news, events, and competitions through the broadcasting program. In addition to school news, students also compile and share current notable events, community service programs, and introduce suitable entertainment programs for students. More specifically, the broadcasting project serves as a bridge for the school leadership to send positive messages and encouragement to students for a new week with the message “Let’s make this week legendary!” for the PennSchool community.
To nurture young talents with a passion for journalism, PennSchool hosted the Young Reporter Competition in November. Themed “Heroes Behind the Scenes,” the competition challenged students to create video or audio stories showcasing unsung heroes around them, such as security guards, janitors, teachers, or family members. The competition provided students with the opportunity to experience the video production process, from setting up the studio to finalizing the video. This experience helped develop teamwork, creativity, and communication skills – essential qualities for a professional reporter.
Through the Broadcasting project, students gained valuable experience while exploring their potential in the fields of PR, journalism, and media. Their involvement in the project not only strengthened their bonds with teachers and classmates but also prepared them well for their future career development.
